My name is Larry Campbell, originally from Little Rock Arkansas. I began playing clubs at age 16 & continued to play professionally throughout the 70's & 80's. I was very fortunate to play with some of the very best musicians in the area & across the USA, playing everything from "cover tunes" to "originals", & at the same time, make a decent living doing the thing that I love to do, play guitar.
I have two passions in this life, the first one being mathematics, to be more descriptive, problem solving by utilizing geometry & trigonometry. I've solved many coverage angles over 29 years in the field of sound system design & installation. The second passion is music theory & how it applies to modern music & the guitar. After teaching guitar & music theory for 30 years, I have come to appreciate the mathematics in music: Nashville number system, diatonic chord scales, modal chord progressions, inversions, modal scales, arpeggios. Its all mathematics, same key, just starting in a different position!
As a musician, I accepted a position at a music store & I relocated to Texarkana Arkansas in 1978 which brought many opportunities for me to play, do session work for the local studios in the area & play as a solo artist. I began teaching guitar in 1980 & I continue to teach to this day. I enjoy teaching music theory & guitar cause the fact is: to teach someone else how to play an instrument requires you to first understand & continually expand your knowledge of the instrument & the fundamentals of music theory.
As a songwriter, ive had a #1 song on Songvault, #1 song on MyStage Music, & a #1 song on Isynx & im currently being featured as "Artist of the Month of Sept, '09 on Mystage in the category of "Instrumental". I choose to take a universal approach to songwriting by utilizing music theory as my primary reference, rather than relying on the immitation of songs & licks from other artists". On this basis, I feel I have a greater chance of being unique or something new & original! Even though I contribute many great players as influencial to my style, primarily the Rippingtons, Yellowjackets, Crusaders, Steely Dan, Larry Carlton, Eric Johnson, George Benson, Steve Morse, Alan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Pat Marino, & the Japanese instrumental group Black Mages, I still prefer the universal approach to composing!
Currently, im in the latter stages of my CD project, in hopes of completion & availablility, Winter '09 & I invite you to stop by & listen & drop me a line if you like. Im always ready for a discussion!
